How CaTECH Transformed National Distribution Centres of a Leading Pet Care Retailer

An End-to-End Deployment of Security, Wireless, Infrastructure, and Power Resiliency Across 150,000+ sq. ft.

Project Overview

Canada’s leading specialty retailer of premium pet food and supplies was set out to modernize its national distribution centres.

The mission: deploy a secure, scalable, and centrally managed infrastructure to support daily warehouse operations, improve inventory accuracy, and streamline communications—across 150,000+ sq. ft. of critical space.

To meet these complex needs, CaTECH Systems was chosen as the turnkey integrator for this multi-site initiative, delivering:

  •  A fully integrated Bosch enterprise security system (intrusion, access, CCTV)

  • A Cisco Meraki cloud-managed wired and wireless network

  • RF site surveys and wireless design for high-density warehouse environments

  • IP paging and intercom integration with Microsoft Teams

  • APC UPS-based power resiliency and environmental monitoring

Challenges

1. Disconnected Legacy Security Systems

  • Each facility used different security platforms, limiting real-time visibility and compliance across sites.

2. Poor Wireless Coverage in Harsh Environments

  • 30+ ft ceilings, metal racking, and reflective surfaces caused RF dead zones and disrupted mobile workflows.

3. Non-Native Integration with Microsoft Teams

  • Our client needed their paging and intercom systems to integrate with Teams—a platform not built for such functions.

4. Limited Power Resilience

  • Undersized UPS units were insufficient to protect critical systems in the event of power loss.

5. Multi-Disciplinary Coordination in Active Warehouses

  • Executing security, wireless, and power installations with minimal disruption required off-hours work and detailed planning.

Solutions

Bosch Enterprise Security Deployment

  • Intrusion Detection & Alarms: Dual-path signaling with real-time remote monitoring via Bosch BVMS.
  • Access Control: Role-based permissions with live badge verification at entry points.
  • Video Surveillance: High-resolution CCTV with smart analytics—line-crossing alerts, motion detection, and video capture tied to events.

Cisco Meraki Networking & Wireless

  • RF Design & Surveys: Greenfield and active warehouse surveys using Ekahau tools to identify signal gaps.
  • Robust Infrastructure: MR-series APs with directional antennas for full warehouse aisle coverage.
  • Centralized Management: One dashboard for all network health, client tracking, and performance alerts.

Teams-Based Paging & Intercom Integration

  • Custom SIP Integration: AudioCodes Mediant VE gateways connected IP speakers directly to Teams.
  • Real-Time Paging: Emergency and zone-based announcements triggered via Teams.
  • Two-Way Intercoms: IP intercoms at unmanned gates connected to Teams for seamless communication.

Power Resiliency & Environmental Monitoring

  • UPS Systems: APC Galaxy VS and 3kVA units ensured no downtime in IDFs and MDFs.
  • Environmental Sensors: Centralized temperature and humidity monitoring with alerts.

Project Management & Execution

  • One Point of Contact: A dedicated CaTECH project manager led all disciplines.
  • Pre-Staged Equipment: Reduced on-site deployment time and warehouse disruption.
  • OH & S Protocols: Safe, off-hour installs to protect staff and operations.

Results

  • 99.99% Network Uptime

  • Eliminated connectivity drops for scanners and mobile devices.

  • 90% Reduction in False Alarms.

  • Real-time visibility improved incident detection and response.

  • Unified Communications Under One Platform.

  • Paging and intercom fully integrated with Microsoft Teams—<10 second response times.

  • Standardized design enables faster rollout at new facilities.
