Project Overview

As a trusted AV and data communications partner, CaTECH was engaged to support the technology build-out of a 1.2 million sq. ft. fully automated distribution centre for a leading Canadian retailer.


The facility required reliable and intuitive audio visual solutions to support collaboration, training, operational visibility, executive presentations, and day-to-day communication across a large and highly specialized environment.


The deployment included:


  • 34 video conferencing-enabled rooms
  • 2 custom multi-purpose training rooms
  • a control centre with 22 displays
  • a 300-person auditorium with an 8x8 video wall
  • display installations within localized freezer environments.

Challenges

  • Delivering AV systems across a large automated distribution centre with multiple room types and operational areas.


  • Installing displays within localized freezer environments where work had to be carefully planned around cold conditions.


  • Mounting displays in difficult-to-access locations, including above conveyor systems, on structural beams, and at the ends of shelving units.


  • Coordinating with other trades to ensure AV installation aligned with construction progress and site readiness.

Solutions

  • CaTECH designed and implemented a custom AV environment that balanced room-specific functionality with a consistent user experience across the facility.


  • The larger collaboration spaces included advanced AV components such as multiple displays, ceiling audio, wireless microphones, and full AV rack infrastructure.


  • Two multi-purpose training rooms were designed to operate independently or in a combined format, giving the client flexibility for employee training, meetings, and group sessions.


  • The control centre was equipped with 22 displays operating simultaneously to support visibility across transportation, maintenance, freezer areas, and security operations.


  • For freezer-area installations and complex mounting locations, CaTECH’s field team used practical problem-solving, safe access planning, and close coordination with site teams to complete the work effectively.
